Over the past few days, I’ve had the opportunity to spend focused time with Sony Alpha cameras and Xperia smartphones, including about 45 minutes with a prototype of the new device. Xperia 5 IV You can now pre-order it from Sony. This flagship model debuts at just under $1,000, which is easier to justify than Xperia I IV $1599.99 Which finally started shipping soon in the US.
the new Sony Xperia 5 IV (Denoted as Mark 4), like other Sony Xperia phones, it’s primarily designed for content creators with advanced photography and video experiences that Sony Alpha camera users will be familiar with. In addition to camera experiences, the Xperia 5 IV runs with the Music Pro app to help voice, vocal, or voice-over creators create professional content with the option of cloud-based processing via subscription.
Sony’s in-camera imaging technologies are featured on this new phone, including eye AF and object tracking on all three rear cameras. Videography Pro, Photo Pro, and Cinematography Pro apps are all available for creators to take full control of their shooting experiences. You can also connect the Xperia 5 IV to your Alpha camera through the external display feature.

Practical Prototype
Sony showed off the Xperia 5 IV here in Idaho at a Kando Trip event and then gave attendees about 45 minutes of hands-on practice with the prototyping hardware. I took a few still photos and video, paired with Sony Vlog Monitor Bluetooth shooting grip. I can see a lot of value in this complete setup and hope to test this set out further as Sony gets closer to shipping the phone.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used my Sony Xperia as my primary device, but I’m stuck with an extension Xperia 5 IV On hand makes me think carefully about buying. It has a fairly compact design in today’s modern smartphone world with a narrow width that makes it very comfortable to hold. The 21:9, 6.1-inch screen is good for cinematic video content, and the 5,000mAh battery has the potential to keep this phone going for a long time. The physical shutter button, 3.5mm headphone jack, and side fingerprint sensor are all additional details we don’t see on other phones today.
