Red Wings top the list and schedule for the 2022 NHL Prospect Championship

Detroit The Detroit Red Wings today released the 2022 NHL Prospect tournament roster and complete tournament schedule for the event, which will take place Thursday, September 15 through Monday, September 19 at the Center Ice Arena in Traverse City, Mich. The team is made up of 24 final draft picks, free agent signings, and trials that will battle against potential teams from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings roster is marked with a pair of first-round picks from the 2021 NHL Entry Draft: defenseman Simon Edvinson (6th place) and goalkeeper Sebastian Kosa (15th place). Edvinsson scored 19 points (2-17-19) in 44 games for Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League and led the league’s junior team with an average 19:46 time on the ice en route to the finalists for the SHL’s Rookie of the Year Award. . The 19-year-old Blueliner also helped Sweden’s team to a bronze medal at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships, averaging 22:27 times on the ice and scoring two points (1-1-2) in six games for Sweden. Koussa reached the Goaltender of the Western Hockey League final last season with a record 33-9-3, 2.28 goals-to-average and 0.913 save percentage for the Edmonton Oil Kings. In all, Cossa has a record 71-16-7 with a 2.12 goal-to-average and 0.921 savings percentage across three seasons for the oil kings. The 19-year-old also appeared in one match to help Team Canada take the gold at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships.

Another notable figure in the list is the left wing Elmer Soderblum (159th overall, 2019), who was 6-foot-8, 249 pounds captained SHL’s Frolonda with 21 goals in his first full season with the club and scored 33 points (21-12-33) to lead all under-21 skaters SHL; center Cross Hanas (55th place, 2020), who averaged more than one point per game to the WHL’s Portland Winterhawk’s 86 points (26-60-86) in 63 games; defenseman Donovan Sebrango (63rd place, 2020), who already skated in 96 games with Grand Rapids when he was 20 and helped Team Canada win gold as a substitute captain at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships; and blueliner Albert Johansson (60th overall, 2019), who scored a career high of 25 points (5-20-25) in 52 regular season games and slumped in eight (2-6-8) in 19 post-season appearances to help Vargstad win The 2022 SHL Championship.

Fourteen of the 24 players on the list are from previous Red Wings picks, with first-round picks plus second-round picks, three third-round picks, two fourth-round picks, two fifth-round picks, two sixth-round picks and a seventh-round pick .
